Adjustment / Compromise. Same thing? At the end of the day will I feel the same way if I “compromise” compared to if I “adjust”?
Words are powerful. Compromises often imply we are losing something or settling. I have goals, ideas and dreams I want to pursue. Life happens and things change. I change. I have had dreams I put aside “until later” and when later comes I am no longer interested. Sometimes, I’m not even the same person. Did I compromise my dreams waiting? I don’t think so – life happens and that is when adjustments come into play.
When life happens we should adjust to it. Circumstances change from family, job to health. If we think in terms of making adjustments to what is happening in our lives, not making compromises I think it is a healthier way to live.
We are not losing or settling when life throws us a curveball. We are adjusting to circumstances and maybe even thinking outside the box. I do believe if we can put a different spin on this, it can make life easier and maybe even more enjoyable.
We’re adjusting. No big deal – it might even adjust into something better. Who knows?
You can always start now!
Compromise is ok if you lose something and at the same time give someone that you care about part of what they want. But compromising in terms of lowering your expectations feels like you’re losing out. In those cases, I like your word adjusting more, because then you can start to look and see if there are any positives in the new situation.

I agree with your take on compromise. I just wanted to put it out there that often we have a choice on how we look at situations. I think negativity breeds negativity so anything we can do to flip it is a good thing. Thanks for commenting and visiting!

It’s so true what you say about making adjustments in life. It’s such a great attitude to have, and it makes me feel better about the choices I’ve made.

I’m glad. Life is a journey and choices are part of life. I think making informed choices and dealing with consequences is all we can ask for.

Gr8 thought. The caption is expressive. Yes to me also we mostly loose in compromising but yes if it is for your loved one you not feel bad. But for females mostly its other way. Sharing it is my FB

I think most things you have to deal on a case by case basis. I agree sometimes you compromising as it is the best choice. It is living with your decisions that can be hard. Thanks for commenting and visiting!!

Absolutely right. Words have so much power! In future I’ll make adjustments in my life. Make adjustments to my dreams and goals. It’s many years ago since I first dreamt of writing a novel. I put it to one side. I’m glad I did. The time wasn’t right. I wasn’t ready and I may have given up half-way through and never gone back!

An interesting point, I think. Are there any situations where you think compromise is the right word?
I was reflecting on how when two sides both want something, it might be important to use the word “compromise” in order for both to feel the process was fair. But when we’re speaking about our own lives and how we adjust to changing circumstances it seems like you’re absolutely right. We can’t “compromise” with cancer or a car accident or winning the lottery—instead we adjust.
Very thought provoking!

Good point over two sides wanting something and yes to compromising. Post wise I was thinking more about my own life and adjusting to circumstances. I guess taking a more positive proactive approach and not feeling I’m giving up something by compromising if it isn’t realistic at the time. Or like you said cancer and circumstances we have to adjust to. Thanks for visiting and commenting. One of the best parts of blogging – community.
