Random Acts of Kindness Day

February 17th is Random Acts of Kindness Day.  I want to acknowledge this day.  Part of me is saying yeah a day people will get out there and seize opportunities for acts of kindness.  The other part of me is – seriously? We need a day for this?

A smile at a stranger, holding the door open, giving your seat up on the bus, letting someone ahead of you in line, buying someone behind you a coffee.  All these things are great but do we need a “special” day to motivate us to do them?

Why can’t random acts of kindness be part of who we are? I’m the person who automatically holds the door open when people are behind me. It is not a random act it is what I do.

Don’t get me wrong.  I want to celebrate this day. Any day that motivates people and makes them more aware of others is worth celebrating.  So yes to random acts of kindness day – lets flood the day with kindness.

I just hope the take away is that it is easy to do random acts of kindness everyday.  To incorporate kindness into our daily lives not just one day a year and do a blowout.

You can always start now!

Couldn’t agree more. Random acts of kindness should be a natural, automatic thing we do every day, any day. It takes so little but can really make the difference in someone’s day.
