If you are just stopping by for the first time, life lessons is my take on well…..life lessons. Some I have mastered, the majority are a work in progress.
Life lesson of over keepsakes. For me this is a bit of a work in progress. My mother passed away longer than I care to admit now. My sister, niece and I went through clothes and jewelry and that was taken care of. I still have boxes of yarn, embroidery thread and dishes I am slowly working through and using. Every so often I do a purge and can get rid of a few more items of her’s that don’t have any special meaning for me just that she owned them.
It is the memories more than any of the items I have kept. Coming home from not meeting a friend at the theatre and mad because I wanted to see the show. Her saying “let me get my coat” and us heading back down for later show. Always being available to go have a coffee, listening to books on CDs together and of course doing crafts. These are my keepsakes more than the jewelry, yarn and dishes.
So make memories and don’t rush through conversations. Ask questions and listen, take pictures and share ideas/dreams. I had a friend find out her mother when she was dying had always wanted to take a cruise. It was sad as that was something they could have done – so ask questions and share your to do list. There might be an incredible memory waiting to happen there!
PS I am typing this on my desk – which is the linoleum/chrome kitchen table I grew up on so lots of memories here. Oh, and my favorite piece in my home.
You can always start now !
So true. I’ve just shared your post on Twitter because I think it’s good for us all to stop and think about these things. I have a lot to remind me of my grandparents, who brought me up, and the things that belonged to them remind me of the good times we had together.

Thank you for the share. Keepsakes are special as I sit at the table I posted about. It is about taking the time to stop and remember special people when we see an item, event or even another person. Not rush through it. thanks for stopping by.

We tend to take so much for granted and that it’s the little every day moments that can make the best memories. Enjoyed this very much.

I agree. A favorite is just sitting listening to books on tape and knitting together. Sometimes it is about being in the same room that counts.

Sooo true! Its the tiny things, the memories that are most important. And we tend to take things for granted. We must cherish the little things.

Agree and pay attention to what is happening around us to create that memory.

This is so true, and resonates with me after the two years my family has been through! I am very much behind the thought process of people and memories, but having small keepsakes of our loved and lost ones is special. Great post xx

I think this time of year is special also for keepsakes – ornaments, linens. Pulling out ornaments you remember hanging on trees from your childhood. I think it is also important to create memories and keepsakes for others. So maybe special ornaments made or purchased with intention. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

So lovely that you’re writing on the table do your childhood. These things, provided they don’t clutter our lives, have a kind of essence that seems to give peace and warmth. At least that’s how is I think of the few keepsakes I have. They’re special. If I lost them I’d survive, but having them feels like snuggling in a warm blanket when it’s chilly outside.

Well put. Thank you. My mother was one of the most practical individuals I have ever met. So using something of hers practically! has a special meaning in itself. Always enjoy your take on things!

Your welcome. I find people always seem to be in a rush to the next thing and don’t appreciate the moment they/we/me are in.
